Success of High density Apple plantation lies in different factors, one of them being the procedure of planting. In Kashmir many growers overlook this important step which leads to considerable amount of loss.

While planting, we must ensure that the roots of plants are properly placed in the pit and most importantly the 'graft union' is kept at a minimum height of 4 inches from the ground, so that it wouldn't come in contact with soil or water. This step will govern the root and collar health of the plant. If the graft union is underground or touching to the soil it will deteriorate at fast rate as the cambium is exposed and risk of soil infection is always high, it also leads to root formation around graft union which leads to failure of rootstock.
